Ep 88: Le Serum by Dior Science– An Awakening of Skin
LVMH research today reveals the phoenix flower— the mythical Longoza now in a fermented form. A total of 85 molecules penetrate deep into skin— anchoring mother cells at the dermo-epidermal junction. Instrumental studies show record efficacy— with skin-smoothening effects in 4 hours, double the firmness in 7 days and 80% of aging signs corrected within 30 days.
Today’s podcast delves into the science of beauty— the name of a flower— one found on the island of Madagascar. One shaped like a phoenix, with equal powers— the last time we spoke about the Rose de Gran Ville and her abode in Monsieur Christian Dior’s Villa Les Rhumbs. This time I’ll take you into the rainforest, where Dior Science has perfected… another type of garden. One so harmonious, like skin itself— an interplay of the microbiome, climates… textures on our senses. The result? A complete serum— Le Serum by Dior in 2023 promises beauty inside out.
A stands for… anchoring (alpha) mother cells.
Based on the world’s first comprehensive skin testing platform— DIOR has developed a universal formula for all skin types, genders and ethnicities. With that, also an updated formula for Le Serum.

The result? A complete serum— Le Serum by Dior in 2023 promises beauty inside out. First, with the enhanced absorption — made possible by biofermentation. The serum, with its 85 bioactive molecules penetrate deep into the dermis— this time, it acts on a crevice. This we call, the dermo-epidermal junction — where mother cells reside. These mother cells, according to research, consist of two types. The beta and the alpha, the latter considered the heart of cell regeneration in healthy skin.
Active ingredients
The 2023 Le Serum contains fermented Longoza, which is more concentrated, assimilable and potent— the enzymes generated enhance action on the mother cells. The result? Strongly anchored alpha mother cells for cell vitality and skin radiance.
Key to the new formulation are two leading active ingredients. Last year, we heard about instant skincare which promises immediate results. That isn’t the case, most of the time. But I think with Le Serum, we’re at the closest we will ever be. The H.A poly-filler is a unique complex with combines 2 different hyaluronic acids with polyglycerols— potent humectants that provide an immediate and long-term plumping effect.
Hyaluronic acids are not all the same — high molecular weight hyaluronic acid remains on the skin surface— this provides a film that both protective and tightening effects. The second type of hyaluronic acid is low molecular weight acetylated hyaluronic acid which penetrates deeper for a plumping effect— inside out.
Finally, 4 types of polyglycerols synergise with the hyaluronic acid complex to provide complete and lasting hydration that lasts up to 8 hours.
Tuscan Iris, Dior Le Serum
Tuscan Iris is the new addition I’m excited about. Grown in Italy, on its original terroir— the Dior Garden in Tuscany, it quite literally shields the skin from damaging UVA rays— something we’ve known before to be a property of certain plants which form an antioxidant microenvironment that builds skin resilience. But specifically, the Tuscan Iris prevents carbonyl action of proteins— a chemical reaction that causes cell damage. It works synergistically in the ecosytem of skin— preventing free radical damage and further stabilising the alpha mother cells to ensure optimum function.
An avant-garde testing platform accompanies the launch of Le Serum— one that is built to include all skin types, colors and genders. A little known fact in skincare is that dermatologists really do prefer a universal product — meaning, one that is efficacious and safe on all skin types. This is at the heart of cosmeceutical skincare. Truly, dermatologists would have you believe that less, is the new more.
A story of beauty
The 2023 reformulated Capture Totale Serum is a story of beauty. One that begins on the inside… of a tropical rainforest. The Longoza, the mythical flower of Madagascar. But it is also one that has evolved—- to revolutionise beauty. Now fermented, the extract is one observed to have the highest bioavailability ever— increasing absorption and efficacy.
True to their promise of sustainability — beginning with the skin; effects are observed quickly and also retain efficacy over 8 hours. The commitment to the environment includes a nature-based formulation; with 98% ingredients of natural origin. The key process of multi-fermentation is fully plant-based and meets the stringent requirements of sustainable development without synthetic input or GMOs.
