How Red LED Light Therapy Works for Your Skin

Ep 49: LED Red Light Therapy for Home Beauty Care

This week, Dr. Teo Wan Lin highlights the importance of a well designed home LED facial device that delivers red light. Red light therapy used in the dermatologist office setting stimulates cellular mitochondria, increases collagen production and reduces inflammation.

Besides being highly effective, the LG Pra.L Derma LED Mask earns top marks for its safety features in a home care device – an in-built silicone eye shield and automated sensors distinguish it from its competitors. Part of the suite of home beauty care products is also the LG Pra.L.Total Lift Up Care device which utilizes microcurrent technology to stimulate production of elastin and collagen in the skin, providing a non-surgical facelift effect while simultaneously targeting superficial lines and wrinkles.

Hi guys and welcome to this week’s dermatology flash briefing. I’m Dr. Teo Wan Lin of TWL Specialist Skin & Laser Centre and in this week’s briefing, we’re going to share the benefits of home beauty care technology, specifically, red-light LED therapy as well as microcurrent devices. These are technologies that have been FDA cleared, and also sophisticatedly incorporated in LG Pra.L’s range of home beauty care devices.

Benefits of red LED light therapy

The benefits of red-light therapy are well established in the dermatologist office setting. We start with this, because it is amazing that research shows that red light increase the activity of cellular mitochondria. Additionally, it also directly increases the rate of collagen production. We have used red- light therapy for the treatment of scars to increase the rate of wound healing post-surgery, and also for photoaging concerns. The evidence for LED light therapy or, low-level laser therapy, has been reviewed in the scientific literature. We know that it provides important biological effects in the skin. This accelerates protein synthesis and can have therapeutic effects of enhancing tissue repair, and is also anti-inflammatory.

Red LED Light Therapy Masks

Usually, small handheld devices that have been marketed for red-light therapy typically do not provide the equivalent level of the effects we expect to see from clinical studies involving red-light therapy. In addition, there has been a void in the LED mask sector. Simply because of the lack of sufficient eye protection in these homecare devices.

So when I was introduced to the LG Pra.L Derma LED mask, I was definitely interested in the built-in silicon eye protection feature. This is similar to what we use in a clinical setting to protect the eyes during red light LED therapy. In fact, this is an important point because another brand did recall the prototype for these LED face masks several years ago, because of reports of potential retinal damage.

This is a critical feature in the LG Pra.L Derma LED face mask, which also incorporates the 160 infrared and red LED light. These infrared and LED lights are able to penetrate deep into the second layer of the skin, the dermis. This improves firmness, stimulate collagen production, and also brighten skin tone by enhancing cellular renewal.

In just nine minutes for a full treatment regimen, the LG Pra.L Derma LED mask is effective and convenient. It ideally provides the optimal amount of light for a tested duration for positive results without the risk of skin damage. Furthermore, it has the added benefits of this eye shield design and also a sensor detector. This means that it can only operate when it is in the correct position on the user’s face. This ensures that there is always protection for the eyes.

Microcurrent device for face

Moving on to the second product in the LG Pra.L range which is the Total Lift Up Care device based on microcurrent technology and high-frequency thermal therapy. Electrical stimulation of skin has been studied in the field of dermatology research. It helps to promote wound healing, which itself is a key process that research links to the aging process. The decline in collagen production in aged skin causes it to appear saggy. Furthermore, also contributes to the loss of elasticity of the skin. Microcurrent stimulates the function of the skin cells.

The design of the LG Pra.L Total Lift Up Care device includes a skin-safe medical implant grade contact piece. This provides the tightening and lifting effects from microcurrent technology. In combination with focal red light therapy, it helps lift and tighten the skin. This can minimize the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, which are signs of photoaging. At the same time, it also stimulates collagen and elastin production in the dermis, providing a facelifting effect to treat and prevent sagging skin.

The recommended duration is at 18 minutes, twice a week. The total home beauty treatment is a regimen that can treat the cheeks, the forehead, the delicate periorbital area, as well as the chin area. Relevance of skincare tools and devices for home use

Having lived through the ongoing pandemic, we’re all very familiar with how stay-home skincare regimens have evolved. Additionally, because of the increased awareness of the importance of self-care. I emphasize that the best skincare regimen has to include an appropriate home beauty care device with evidence-based technologies. The obvious benefits are those from the device technology itself. As we have mentioned, microcurrent therapy, low-level laser light therapy. Additionally, an increase in absorption of cosmeceutical active ingredients in your skincare regimen. Therefore, I feel there is a significant role for the incorporation of home-care beauty devices to your skincare regimen.

The causes of aging are both biological, relating to chronological aging. As well as external environmental stresses which cause free radical damage and oxidative stress. By combining homecare devices with these evidence-based technologies, we can effectively increase the antioxidant absorption of skincare ingredients. Additionally, help to reverse and prevent aging skin signs that we associate with photoaging such as superficial wrinkles, enlarged pores and sagging, in a safe, effective manner.
